Ellie Kanner has over 15 years of experience in the entertainment industry. WAKE, her third feature, was selected as the Opening Night film at the 19th edition of the prestigious Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California.
Her second feature was the independent film crazylove, which debuted at the Hollywood Film Festival in October, 2005. crazylove later had its American broadcast premiere on Lifetime on Valentine's Day, 2006 and has been distributed in more than 85 countries around the world by Porchlight Entertainment. Kanner's first film was the comedy Face To Face, which won numerous festival awards around the country. She has also found success in TV, having directed episodes of The Dead Zone, The Division, ABC's Boston Legal, and ABC Family's Wildfire. In 2007, she directed an episode of ABC Family's hit show Greek.
Starting out in the industry as an agent, Kanner quickly moved into casting and became a top casting director. Among her many successes was casting the six lead actors for the pilot and first season of Friends. The show went on to make television history and Kanner received an Artios nomination for the pilot. Her other notable casting credits include the pilots of Sex and the City, The Dead Zone, and multiple seasons of Dawson's Creek. Her feature film casting credits include Noah Baumbach's writing and directorial debut film Kicking and Screaming, as well as Sleep With Me, Playing Mona Lisa and many more.
Kanner is also the co-author of two advice books for actors: Next! An Actor's Guide to Auditioning and How NOT To Audition: Avoiding The Common Mistakes Most Actors Make. She lives in Los Angeles with her two young sons and her husband, David Zuckerman, who co-developed Family Guy.
